Jerry Tam of 'Project Runway' Wednesday night’s season five premiere of Project Runway began with an oh-so-familiar challenge: the Gristede’s supermarket sweep from season one, which found the 15 designers dashing through the aisles in search of - what everyone hoped would be - the perfect haute cuisine to whip into haute couture. For eliminated designer Jerry Tam, his whole white tablecloth affair wound up being less than savory to the judges. Fancast caught up with Tam to find out his thoughts on being auf’ed and what exactly was going on with Stella's garbage bag creation.

How was it watching the whole show unfold on TV last night?
There was a little heartache, to be honest. I saw all the contestants, one’s gonna win, the others are gonna lose, but it was heartbreaking for me.

Who did you watch it with?
Fortunately or unfortunately I was in the NBC studios watching it with the producers at Bravo headquarters with all the hoopla and champagne, so that was the fortunate part about it, the unfortunate part was watching myself get kicked off Project Runway on national television.

Did you have to excuse yourself at any point during watching because it was too emotional?
Well truthfully I’m absolutely OK with it because I got to be on an Emmy Award-nominated show, and I made some nice friends out of the deal, and I got to take a break from the fashion world and have fun.

Do you feel like Stella deserved to go instead of you?

First and foremost Stella put a garbage sack on a girl, and she whipstitched it. We gave her the nickname “The Whipstitch Garbage Bag Girl.” I can’t believe my fully tailored trench coat, which was beautiful with a full dress underneath it, was outshined by a trash bag. She should have gone. She gave up during the competition and during the runway show. She told the judges ‘I don’t really want to be here, I just put this together in five minutes, I had other people help me,’ so it was kind of discouraging to hear that she didn’t want to have anything to do with the show.

I am not interested in watching them do things with thrash bags etc. We watch the show to see their real talent and look at what they do with real material...Give us a break and get on with the real show, and leave the thrash for the thrash men....
thanks bb

The reason seems simple "TBG" was more intersting - tats - leather - woman - all add up to more interesting TV - I think Jerry got a raw deal too - Yes I thought the yellow gloves made his finished design a bit scary - but that was FUN! Still, he did a lot more than whine and **bleep** and then string some glad bags together - Hey maybe instead of TBG (Trash Bag Queen) she should be call Glad Bag Queen - Don't get Mad ...Get Glad...Bag Queen... You go Jerry - hang in there!

Well Golly!!
Jerry is right! Who would have thought she could win? I made a costume one Halloween out of trash bags and sent my friend off to a party as a " Bag Lady", now I'm no designer, but I don't claim to be, but maybe I'm missing the boat. Jerry"s dress was at least a dress, and tailored too! What were those Judges thinking? You be the Judge. Vendela2u2

I agree that the trash bag outfit was the worst, and I believe Stella & the surfer dude do not have enough brain cells remaining to survive very many challenges. I can't understand how those 2 made the cut. Surely, with the popularity of this show, there must have been a huge amount of talent to turn out for auditions. Can anyone imagine Stella and the tanned dude designing and executing high-minded fashion? I feel sorry for the model who had to allow the surfer to stitch the outfit closed between her legs. Think he planned that?
I do believe Jerry's look could have been salvaged if he had left out the yellow rubber gloves and white boots. Scary & ridiculous!!!

They need to give Jerry another chance, and bring him back on the show...they've done it before, where they let someone go and then brought them back. Maybe if enough people **bleep** they"ll do it.

Obviously, they kept Stella on for ratings. She is clearly the most untalented, with a very negative attitude. There is a pattern with reality shows, they keep the most annoying people on, for as long as possible for RATINGS. I was not impressed with any of the tablecloth garments but clearly trash bag girl should have been the one eliminated.

I used to love Project Runway. But it's getting pretty obvious that the designers the producers keep around, are the ones that make good TV. Not good clothes!
