‘Sex and the City’ Sequel in Development

After months of speculation, HBO executives have confirmed a “Sex and the City” sequel is in the works.

While there isn't an official deal yet, Michael Lombardo, HBO president of programming, told reporters at the TCA press tour, “There is enormous interest to do another ‘Sex and the City.’ In fact, they're trying to put that together now.”

You knew it was coming, since the big-screen adventures of the Fab Four have pulled in $132 million so far. Says Lombardo, “Everybody associated with that project was really heartened by the enthusiasm from fans.”

So what about a film revival of HBO’s other landmark series?

HBO co-president Richard Plepler says of the chances for a “Sopranos” film: “If David Chase [the series creator] wants to do it, we'd be delighted to explore that, absolutely.”

And with the cancellation of David Milch’s “John from Cincinnati,” it would seem he’d have some free time to return to his wild western masterpiece for those two mythical “Deadwood” movies, right?

Yes, it was asked, and yes, the answer is still the same: “Deadwood” is dead. Plepler announced that “David is working on a pilot called ‘Last of the Ninth’ about a 1970s New York City Police Department. I think it's safe to report to you that the likelihood of a ‘Deadwood’ movie happening is slim to none.”

As for the other series missing from HBO’s schedule, Lombardo cites writers-strike fallout: “We got pushed back literally four months on everything.”

“Entourage” and “Big Love” will be back in the fall. “Curb Your Enthusiasm” was not the result of the strike, however. “It was just Larry's schedule,” says Lombardo. “He happens to be acting in a Woody Allen movie right now. He plans to get back to the show [after that]. So hopefully at the end of next year, we'll be back with ‘Curb’ [Season 7, 10 episodes].”

Click here to comment: Should Sarah Jessica Parker and the gang test their luck and do another film? Do you want to see "The Sopranos" on the big screen? Do you still long for "Deadwood"? And who else is in "Curb" withdrawal???

I was one of the first on the bandwagon. I do think the
nude scene was totally unnecessary. Now that everyone
knows the plot, relationships, and characters we like more new story and less rehash.

I LOVED the movie as much as the series... You could definitely count me in as an addict that would be at the second one just as fast as the first! I thought the movie was fabulous... Don't understand the drama about the nude scene.... There was nudity in the series also, or were those just my episodes? lol I have never understood why nudity on screen with women is fine, but nudity on screen with men is taboo?? Why?

YES to the Sex & The City Sequel!!! YES to the SOPRANOS film!!! YES and YES to a DEADWOOD movie? And, although you did not ask, YES to an extension and/or movie for ROME!!! Also, I had a special affinity for DEADWOOD...my grandfather took my brother and me to DEADWOOD in the 1950s before it had been restored to attract tourists! We saw the graves of Calamity Jane, Wild Bill Hickock, and Dead Eyed **bleep**...at that time the graves were in great decay and one could look down into the graves and see the skeletons! That experience made a lasting impression on me! These were the days before the superhighways and one could still see the buffalo off the highway! A wonderful experience!

What about HBO's series, "In Treatment". I would love for that to come back on. That was outstanding.

Although I loved the series, and most of the now ended series that HBO does, I was disapointed with the movie for the first half because it seemed too much like a movie! If they stuck to the format of the TVshow it would have been great but, hey, do you think they will? An example was how Stanford and Anthony HATED each other in the series and seemed to just adore each other in the movie. The other was how the men, with the exception of Steve and Big, had no real rolls in the movie.

The characters were very uncharacteristic in the movie so I say, NO.

With Carrie married, how fun could it be anyway???

Smooks,

'In Treatment' has been renewed for another season, as well as 'Tell Me You Love Me.'

And MissVicki2007, I LOVED Rome too! Would love to see it again in some form but so far, it doesn't look like that will ever happen.

Absolutely! I turned my boyfriend on to S&TC and he turned me on to Curb. We’re addicted to both and would LOVE them to continue. I’m the age of the character so perfectly played by Kim Cattrall. “Samantha” has been an inspiration to all of us AARP mail recipients to continue looking great and having the “Cougar Mindset” The entire casts of both shows are so magnificently talented, chemically perfect and all American, so I’m sure they would like to continue making money to help those in need. We common folk can’t get enough of your entertainment, and I’m sure all of you can donate to disabled veterans, donate water, food, clothes to the needy, or entertain the troops (I’m against the war too, but they’re doing their job) just like us. Peace out.

Loved, Loved, LOVED the movie for SATC!!! It was like seeing an old, loved friend and picking up right where you left off! I wanted the series back SO BAD! after seeing the movie. I felt like an addict getting a fix...isn't that sad? The chemistry of those four...and Carrie with Big -- OMG! I know those actresses don't want to be associated with those characters forever, but the show was so good and it was so fun to be transformed to fabulous NYC for that short period of time... I guess in a way I also feel like I've been through a break-up and even though you might want to see each other again, it best to just get on with your life. So, no, no sequel for me.

I would love to see another series of Sex and the City. I enjoyed the show very much, and all the adventures that showed how single people handle different situations in their lives. I know it is fiction, but keeps you interested and looking forward to the next show.

Would love to see a sequel for Sex in the City. HBO made a HUGE mistake getting rid of the shows that made folks subscribe to HBO - Sex in the City, Sopranos, Six Feet Under and Deadwood. What was the creator of Deadwood thinking by replacing it with "John from Cincinnati?" Was he on some type of medication??? He disrespected the show and it fans by not ending those wonderfully intricate stories properly. Deadwood was Dead On. And now HBO is Dead Boring. I've switched to Show Time. Let me know when there's something worth watching again on HBO.

Yes, more SEX please!!!!! I loved the series, I still watch them over and over again. I think with 3 of them being married, the writers could come up with some pretty juicy material and they could REALLY have fun with newly single Samantha's character. I can't wait to SEE the sequel!!!:-)

BRING BACK DEADWOOD!!!! HBO subscribers deserve a decent final chapter to the lives of the Deadwood characters....I was sorely dissapointed when the series ended without wraping up the loose ends :-( I've been debating cancelling my HBO subscription and if there won't be another season, or at least movie, of Deadwood then I'm outta here.

Never saw the series, loved the movie and WILL see the movie and now will rent the dvd series. Sarah is a doll. She is very talented and I love how she, her husband, and children have a real perspective on life, realizing that Hollywood is just a job and that "family" is always the main thing in life. Way to go, Sarah!!!!!!

I'll be one of the first at the next "sex and the city" movies..........

I would love to see another sequel!! The series was absolutely fabulous and the movie was perfection! We have watched these women through every aspect of their lives and loves. The movie gives us some closure, but we still have a single girl! Once all of the girls have found the loves of their lives, then the circle will be complete.
