By Julie Zied, Fancast.comWhile promoting her upcoming Hallmark Channel movie Accidental Friendship, two-time Emmy-winner Chandra Wilson defended her "Grey's Anatomy" castmate Katherine Heigl's recent decision not to enter the Emmy race.
"All actors have to do the exact same thing every year, 'How do I submit? Do I submit?'" Wilson said. "The public at large doesn’t understand it's about the show, not about you, especially when you're dealing with drama categories. You can have a great seasonal arc but if you don’t have a show that’s your show that you feel strongly about your performance in, then you may not submit. We all have to do that every time Emmy season comes, we put our money up."
Wilson then went on to comment on the media frenzy surrounding Heigl's announcement.
"It's amazing how it got blown out of proportion," she said. "Some years you submit, some years you don’t, we all have to do it, talk to any actor, its all about what thing do you have to present that year."

I can appreciate Chandra Wilson wanting to defend Ms. Heigl, but there is no defense for the swipe Heigl took at the show's producers/writers. She said, ""I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination, and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention."Where is here constructive statement about her own performance? Better yet, why not address comments about subpar material to your employer, not the public. It makes her appear to be ungrateful and self absorbed. You are a loyal co-worker/friend Chandra. But please don't enable her. She prides herself on being outspoken. I respect that. But perhaps she needs to show more respect to those who work very hard to give her "material to work with".

I think that it was blown out of proportion too. And I appreciated Katherine's honesty. Her role was not given the strongest material this season, truth be told. The first season was a better one for Izzy Stephens. The strongest performance should have been put forward. And why is it left up to the actor's to put themselves up for an award? That seems self-serving.Thu, 10 Jul 2008 23:52:14 GMT | cynmac

She starred in "Knocked Up" Could she really be that concerned about the "material" she was given? She's an ego maniac. She's full of herself. She's pretty to look at but she has no real tallent. She started off doing commercials and that is really where she belongs.Fri, 11 Jul 2008 02:10:02 GMT | kevinpbutler101

I agree with everything said before me here. She's super-hot. Just OK as an actress.
But I also think she's right: the writing for her this year was lame. I still liked the rest of the show, though. I also think she's getting a bad image now, too, though, and she should know when to keep things private.
But ALSO the show's execs/writers should be on notice that she's a critical part of that show, and right now Grey's is headed the way of most other TV series - making changes almost always = disaster. You had a hit - stick with it. Fans like what they like, and abandon you when you change it. Don't. (except write Izzy as a character with more substance next season)

Please allow Ms. Heigl to make her own career decisions, thank you. She seems very capable. It's nice to know a castmate has her back. GOOD SEASON TO THE CAST & CREW!Tue, 16 Sep 2008 04:59:44 GMT | ICit2

Katherine Heigl is beautiful, rich, successful and famous. Her success lies in those attributes, but her knowledge and ability to act is what got her noticed. Her decision to not enter the Emmy race does not diminish anything that she has or will accomplish. But her sense of conviction in this matter will gain her many admirers including myself.Thu, 25 Sep 2008 17:45:49 GMT | davemmar
