We
had the pleasure of catching up with "Chuck" creators Josh Schwartz and
Chris Fedak along with star Yvonne Strahovski (Sarah Walker) last
weekend at New York Comic Con. They delivered some exciting news about
the show and some interesting insights into their personal tastes. If
you love the show and don’t want to have the surprises spoiled, read no
further!On Chuck’s Dad:
Chuck will find his dad living in a trailer and his dad will be none other than "Quantum Leap’s" Scott Bakula. The creators said that they are huge "Quantum Leap" fans.
Other casting news:
Chevy Chase will play a mysterious man form Chuck’s dad’s past. Is he CIA, is he an evil mastermind, or is he "Fletch?" It’s not clear. But the creators told us that they have always drawn from the well of Chase’s humor.
“'Fletch' and 'Spies Like Us' are very much within the DNA of our show," creator Josh Schwartz said. "Zach [Levi] really reminds us of Fletch and Chevy, so when the opportunity came to get a guy who’s Chuck’s spiritual godfather it was an opportunity that was too good to pass up.
“We love the 80’s!”
The hilarious Tony Hale from “Arrested Development” will (judging from the manic clip that was shown at the panel) terrorize everyone at the Buy More for the rest of the season.
On Chuck’s Spy Skills:
Chuck will improve (somewhat) and he will even have his first kill.
On the Weinerlicious Uniforms:
Fans we’re sorry to say that the Weinerlicious uniforms are gone for good and the yogurt stand is here to stay. According to Josh Schwartz, there wasn’t much left for Weinerlicious after the season 2 fight scene. “Once we had a fight scene where they used the stick for the hot dog on a stick for weapons we were like, 'We’ve done this,'" Schwartz said. “We didn’t plan well.”
On Crazy Retail Jobs:
"I actually worked at a lot of retail jobs. I worked at Disney World when I was in high school. My job was – you know those glow in the dark necklaces? I had to sell them wearing an outfit of a school boy from the turn of the century. Some strange knickers and tights," Fedak said. "It was actually a fantastic job in a weird way. It was cool and different working inside the tunnels of Disney World."
He continued, "When we came up with a place to work we draw upon all those old jobs. The Buy More is also a home for our show. We don’t want it to be depressing. It’s bright and colorful and fun. There’s like guitar hero and play station for anyone who wants to work there. (He addresses Yvonne) The yogurt gig though, that’s been pretty rough..."
