Looks like “Melrose Place” is hot for teacher too.
Ryan Eggold, who plays handsome young teacher Ryan Matthews on the new “90210,” says he may be graduating from the teen soap to CW’s next classic revival, “Melrose Place.”
“Apparently they want to put me on it,” Eggold revealed Monday at the CW’s TCA party at the Peach Pit (Kokomo Café) in Los Angeles.
Eggold says he’s been approached about moving his character from “90210” to the “Melrose” remake, and he says he’s all for it: “I would be open to it. It would be a more full character, instead of just playing the teacher function.”
“I'd like being on a show with a bunch of twentysomethings,” says Eggold, who admitted producers are having a hard time figuring out what to do with his character. “He’s in this middle ground—he’s not a parent, he’s not an adult [Eggold and his character are 24], and he’s not one of the kids,” so moving on up to “Melrose Place” makes perfect sense.
“I don’t know if the decision has been made, but that’s what they’re saying,” says Eggold.
The CW announced in October it was reviving “Melrose Place,” a spin-off of the original “Beverly Hills, 90210,” after the success of its modernized “90210.”
Shooting on the new “Melrose” is slated to begin this summer, with the network hoping to get it on next fall’s schedule.
The question on everyone’s mind, of course, is which of the original “Melrose” cast members are returning.
Eggold says Heather Locklear, who played Amanda "Mondays Are a Bitch!" Woodward, has definitely been approached.
“I heard she was thinking about coming back,” says Eggold, “and I think she will only because she is so iconic with that show, she might as well embrace it.”

Back on the Beverly Hills front, Eggold confirms Tori Spelling is indeed making her return to "90210," after months of on-again-off-again status.
“Yeah, I’m excited. I’m hoping I get to work with her," Eggold said, adding, "I don’t know what they have in store for Tori, but she’s Jessica Stroup’s [Stroup plays 'Silver'] sister-in-law, I think, so it should be fun."
“I’m sure I’ll be sleeping with her within an episode or two,” joked Eggold, whose Mr. Matthews has been in a love triangle of sorts with the other originals, Kelly (Jennie Garth) and Brenda (Shannen Doherty).
