The History of the Do you believe in curses? Brett Favre better watch his back. The 20th anniversary edition of the most popular sports video game in history has been released and Favre is the cover boy for Madden NFL 09.

A curious trend has emerged since 1999 when the game began featuring one of the NFL’s elite players on the cover each season. Dark clouds seem to hover over the unassuming victim in the form of injuries, ineffectiveness, and just plain bad luck.

Comcast.net's Bill Sudell celebrates the release of Madden NFL 09 and The History of the "Madden Curse."

I don't believe in curses. If Brett Favre has a bad season or a number of injuries it will be due to his time has come. Seventeen years without an injury that kept him out of a game is unheard of in the football business. I wish him luck.

THE MADDEN CURSE LIVES ON!! FIRST THE COVER OF MADDEN IS WRONG NOW BEING THAT BRET IS IN NEW YORK, BUT I THINK IF BRETT HAS A BAD YEAR IT WON'T BE BECAUSE OF THE CURSE ITS BECAUSE HE WAS TRADED FROM A SUPERBOWL CONTENDER TO A UNDER 500 TEAM. YOUR ONLY AS GOOD AS YOUR WEAKEST GUY. NOW IF BRETT GETS INJURED CAUSING HIM TO MISS GAMES FOR THE FIRST TIME I DONT THINK ANYONE WILL WANT TO BE ON THE COVER OF MADDEN. MAYBE A KICKER WILL.(OR MIKE VICK AGAIN) BUT THEN AGAIN IF HE GETS HURT ITS BECAUSE HE WENT TO A BAD TEAM. LOOK AT CHAD PENNINGTON HE COULDNT STAY HEALTHY. BY THE WAY I NOTICED THAT IN THE HALL OF FAME EDITION OF MADDEN THEY SHOW THE COVERS OF THE MOST RECENT MADDEN GAMES HOWEVER NOT 2004 WHICH HAD MIKE VICK ON THE COVER. THE MAN DID WRONG BUT COME ON! CULPEPPER WAS ON THE BOAT PARTY, RAY LEWIS WAS CHARGED WITH MURDER, NOT CONVICTED BUT STILL. GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE. WE CANT ERASE WHAT MIKE VICK DID HE STILL WAS AND PROBABLY STILL IS A GREAT BALL PLAYER. THAT BEING THE CASE THERE CAN BE NO ONE ON THE COVER OF MLB GAMES BECAUSE MOST OF THOSE GUYS ARE DOPING. CAN YOU SAY RICKY WILLIAMS ON THE COVER OF MADDEN 2010!

Brett Favre is immune from the curse because he'll be wearing a Jets uniform, carrying a rabbits foot, eye of nuet, hair of dog...etc...etc

it's just a coincedence that the year these players are on the cover is the very same year that they prove to be over-rated sissies.

I believe that The Madden Curse is real!!! For the last four 0r five years I loved playing madden, and I have noticed that everyone has always had bad luck . I think Brett will have a few injuries but that is kind of expected. Someone I know told me that he knew that the game was cursed because John Madden has always been cursed.

You never know Coming from a New England fan who remembers how long it took the Red Sox to win the World Series Do we believe Brett will be cursed? Of course he will and not because of Maddens game which I think is awesome but because he went to whinny baby Eric Manginies team anyones under that coach is cursed

There is no way the curse is real. Each year dozens of players get hurt. The game cover just puts attention on that player. I think Brett will be fine.

The curse is going to the Jets. I wonder how long it will take before they start booing a hall of famer. Hopefully the 4 on the back of his jersey won't rub off every game from being driven in to the turf

Favre is his own curse. He is the Muhammad Ali of football. As a life-long Packer fan I am very disappointed in his actions. But then again, I really can't blame him. Who wants to retire to a farm inMississippi?

Have you seen Brett's "farm" in Mississippi? It's a mansion, on God knows how many acres! If he doesn't want to retire there, I will!

Lay off the Jets. If Farve gets hurt it's because he plays football and football players usually get hurt.

There are no worries regarding a curse or anything else standing in the way of Favre playing another season (or two?)....he knows his own body, still "has it" where that phenomenal arm is concerned, and will bring invaluable experience and talent to the Jets. As a Packers fan who has the Jets as her hometown faves, I welcome Favre to NEW JERSEY, and am proud to see him remain in Green!!

Well let's ask Nostradamus, "Can the Jets do better with Farve at the controls than they did last year with a 4-12 record?" Nostradamus might have responded, "if the Madden curse doesn't get him first". Farve is older and if the Jets front line doesn't hold off the bads guys, Farve may not survive. If Farve had not played, would he have been in some type of legal issue with Madden Football? Maybe the curse of greed or fear of lawsuit forced him back out onto the field. Nossie, what are you thoughts?

No, I don't believe in anything but reality. If a player gets injured or is not up to high level performance, only then is there a change in statis, nothing else. The curse was man made. Not mystical.

Favre has always been my #1 player. I don't believe in the "curse". The only way he'll get hurt is because he won't have the protection from the jets. Remember Favre is great, but its a team sport. It takes more than one person to win a game. Good luck to Brett.

He will be fine because the cover has him as a Packer and not a Jet! He dodged the curse!!

It won't be Favre who is cursed, it will be the Packers organization. What a disgrace! I am not a Favre or Packers fan, but that is not the way to treat the franchise's greatest player.
