Anna Kournikova -- Not a Jew

Let's be clear, Adam Sandler will not be putting Anna Kournikova in his next Hannukah song. That's because Anna wants you and everyone else to be crystal on this point ... she's not Jewish.
Here's the set-up:
Kournikova was in Washington, D.C. for a team tennis tournament and gossip was swirling about her alleged engagement to Enrique Iglesias. A photographer was courtside and decided to congratulate Anna, with the traditional Jewish greeting, "Mazel Tov."
And away we go...
When freelance photographer Carrie Devorah congratulated Miss Kournikova with the common Hebrew/Yiddish expression "mazel tov," the Russian beauty asked what that meant. When the photog explained it means congratulations and good luck, Miss K, according to Ms. Devorah, snapped, "I am not Jewish - can't you see my cross?"
Yikes. Thank God Devorah didn't offer Anna any gefilte fish.

I don't care what religion she is as long as it doesn't involve covering up that hot body. She has me watching tennis everytime shes on. Other than that tennis could disappear and I wouldn't care. Sergie Federov was no fool to be crazy for her.Thu, 09 Jul 2009 19:23:02 GMT | fixthelions

I agree with Julia1959...let's not forget how so many Russians feel about their brethren (and let it be said that the only reason there isn't more anti-semitism in the USA is b/c we have the blacks to kick around...or so went the old saying). That's why so many escaped the pogroms and took off during glastnost to the USA and Israel. I hear enough anti-semitism and other prejudicial comments here on a regular basis...I don't think humans will ever learn to just love one another as is and stop the hatred. I hope she has a good explanation (other than just plain ignorance). My impression of her just took a gigantic nosedive!Fri, 10 Jul 2009 01:12:44 GMT | Eulogia

Ignorance has many faces. Some are considered beautiful. Proving once again that a pretty face can hide an ugly heart.Fri, 10 Jul 2009 02:48:59 GMT | Rockme1120

She's not anti-semitic. She is, however, stupid.Fri, 10 Jul 2009 05:23:48 GMT | deprogrammed

The predominant religion in Russia is Christian Orthodox. Antisemitism and homophobia are status quo in their ultra-conservative society, and Ms. Kournikova happens to be a member. Russian Jews are looked down upon by the Christian majority. She must have felt that the photographer was trying to imply that she was Jewish and was offended. Saying that she has an ugly heart may be going a bit too far, but the cultural brainwashing is certainly in full effect.Fri, 10 Jul 2009 05:40:24 GMT | mharrison

Good For Her She answered by saying "can't you see my Cross" Good Christian answer. She wasn't being men she stood up to show she was not a Jew but a Christian more Christians should do the same when asked questions of faith come erigvht out ansd say they are Christian, Praise To our Lord and Savior Jesus The Christ.Fri, 10 Jul 2009 12:13:58 GMT | beicht235
