Do Not Witness

See the kid on the left? That's 6-foot-4 Xavier guard Jordan Crawford. (He transferred from Indiana.) Crawford threw down a two-handed dunk on the head of King James at the Lebron James Skills Academy in Ohio. The dunk was reportedly so nasty that no one at the camp could talk about anything else. And ... it was caught on video tape.
But you won't see it. None of us will.
That's because, as CBSSports.com's Lance Parrish reports, James' Nike rep confiscated all video evidence.
Ryan Miller was one of the cameramen at the camp and spoke to CBSSports.com about the incident.
"[Nike Basketball Senior Director Lynn Merritt] just said, 'We have to take your tape,'" Miller said. "They took it from other guys, too."
Of course, the camp has no policy against filming ... and of course, Miller was filming all day without incident. That is, until LeBron got junked by a college kid...
"LeBron called Lynn over and told him something," Miller said. "That's how I knew his name was Lynn. LeBron said, 'Hey, Lynn. Come here.'"Not for nothing, but if you were the greatest basketball player in the world, would you be so Gestapo over a kid from Xavier dunking on you? I mean, it's basketball. It happens.
Minutes later, Miller said Merritt demanded his tape.
"There's nothing I can think of besides LeBron just not wanting it online," Miller said. "It's a good story to tell people, I guess. But then again, I'm kind of pissed. I lost my tape."
King James didn't want his beheading to show up on YouTube ... but didn't he have to know that confiscating a tape would make him look 1,000 times worse than any dunk ever could?
The whole incident makes LeBron look petty and insecure.
Come on, Bron. If we wanted to "witness" our supposed basketball King acting like a petulant child, we would have given Kobe the throne.

Come on...let us see what the kid can do. If the kid did it once he can do it again so hide the tape we don't care but that just makes you look like a sucka.Wed, 08 Jul 2009 18:35:12 GMT | Kyler

From the guy who has to mug for the camera everytime he dunks the ball or makes a hero shot seems a bit hypocritical. Lebron only cares about what's best for the LeBron Corp. Just like the tree falling in the forest but nobody is there to see it, IT STILL HAPPENED!Wed, 08 Jul 2009 18:36:15 GMT | Sicko

Wow is Lebron that shallow that he cannot let another person shine? For all the "King" knows this kid may never hit the pros and this could be his sports highlight. Even though Nike consficated the tape LEBRON was facialized by a college kid enjoy going to therapy, "KING"!Wed, 08 Jul 2009 18:48:43 GMT | COLT77

Explain to me why is it so terrible(funny)? To have a basketball bounced off your head? I sure dont know what they mean?? is this bad or an accident? Deliberate? I assume the ball bouncer did it on purpose for media attention to make people notice him for his PR people.-- Kobe Bryant, its very obvious a "natural" for this sport. Nike will probably create a humorous TV ad with the tapes. (Ho HUMmmm)Wed, 08 Jul 2009 22:19:40 GMT | sassygrma1

Is this illegal to hit somone on his head with a basketball if its deliberate.?? Bryant is a "natural" basketball player, Why would he want anyone to put his entire life or career in jepoardy because of some nobody(before this) doing this to him?? He could get bloodclots or injury from a dimwit trying to make the news, and ruin Kobe's meal ticket and life.Wed, 08 Jul 2009 22:34:35 GMT | sassygrma1

OK. Let me get this straight. Lebron James hosted the "Lebron James Skills Academy." A college player showed his skills at the Academy. James got dunked. I think this is the most hilarious thing I've read in weeks! If James can't handle this, what in the world is he going to do when entire draft classes want to dunk on him every single night? James will look weak and worthless, and his value to the team will be diminished. He may be a great player, but if you can dish it out, you better be able to take it, too. Talk about setting yourself up! Ha!Wed, 08 Jul 2009 23:05:32 GMT | jc5757

I don't think we are talking about Kobe, and second, for $30 million bucks a guy like James should be able to take a shot ... it ain't like getting elbowed in the mellon by Shaq!!Wed, 08 Jul 2009 23:14:06 GMT | jc5757

Aw come on sassygrma1,I love LeBron but he's acting like a 2-year-old. I think the guy dunked the ball over Lebron trying to score not deliberately hitting him in the head. Read the article again. The article is about LeBron NOT Kobe.

Typical superstar with a big ego and he doesn't understand that everyone can and will be replaced.Shaking in his hightops. Its looks even worse when he can't face it and steals tapes. What gives him the right to take tape who does he think he is.

Hey LB, somewhere along the line we all become the butt of the joke. You didn't man up at the end of the Majic series and congradulate the winners. So here you go again a young college kid gets his shine on and you confiscate the tape so the world won't congradulate him. To be called King, means you definitely have the power to reward when someone does well. Let that kid have his day and be rewarded for putting it on your head after all its only a game. MAN-UP or drop the KING......Thu, 09 Jul 2009 16:37:23 GMT | dreskii
