Dead Goat Found Hung at Wrigley Field

See, if I were trying to break the Curse of the Billy Goat, I'd try to appease the baseball gods by letting as many goats as possible into Wrigley all season. Cubs fans ... well, let's just say they went another way.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, a dead goat was found hanging from the Harry Caray statue outside Wrigley Field early Monday morning.
About 2:40 a.m., police responded to a 911 call indicating a dead goat was hanging from a rope on the statue of Harry Caray outside Wrigley Field at the intersection of Clark and Addison streets, according to Town Hall District police.Non-baseball fans probably need a little background on this one.
The goat was hanging on one of Caray’s outstretched arms, according to police, who took the goat down and disposed of the remains. It was not known how the goat died and nothing was damaged, according to police.
On Oct. 6, 1945, tavern owner Billy Sianis tried to get his goat, Murphy, into Game 4 of the World Series at Wrigley. When the Cubs ordered Murphy off the premises, Sianis cast a curse upon the Lovable Losers, supposedly preventing them from ever hosting another World Series at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs lost the '45 Series 4-3 and have not been back since.
This is the second public goat sacrifice Cubs fans have made in the past two years, assumingly trying to vanquish Sianis' curse. In 2007, a butchered goat was found hanging from the statue.
As for Monday's incident, no one has been arrested and the police have not named any suspects.
Do you believe in the Curse of the Billy Goat? How can the Cubs vanquish the spell? Sound off here.

I DO BELIVE IN THE CURSE. AS A LIFE-LONG CUBS FAN, I THINK THEY SHOULD BRING IN A STINKING GOAT AND LET HIM WATCH THE GAME.......HELL, EVEN GIVE HIM A HOTDOG AND AN OLD STYLE! THEN SIANIS'S SOUL CAN REST AND LEAVE THE CUBS ALONE!Mon, 13 Apr 2009 17:15:25 GMT | orrymain63

We should do the same thing to whoever did this. How would they like it? Some people are so cruel. What goes around comes around. Looks like the Cubs won't be winning any Championship this year! Go Phillies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Mon, 13 Apr 2009 17:18:24 GMT | ericapaul

I believe the Cubs are cursed because they have idiot fans who do things like hang dead goats on Harry Caray's statue. The Cubs will clutch, no matter how well they do during the season, no matter who is the coach...they do what Cubs always do: FAIL.They deserve the "fans" they keep; a fan last night tried to interfere with a foul ball in Milwaukee....Won't they ever learn? I guess not...they are true" Cubs' fans"...

There is something seriously wrong with whoever did this. I'm a lifelong cubs fan, I don't know if I believe in curses but if I did, I still would'nt think it was ok to do that to an animal. Why the hell would someone think that hanging a goat would be the answer. Maybe its some twisted white sux fan trying to keep the curse alive.Mon, 13 Apr 2009 17:49:06 GMT | chicubs06

The lucky thing is I don't think the players belive in it. How about alot of years of bad management and not even close to the overall talent level they have throughout the lineup the past few years. The Sandberg years were the only years close to the talent level we have now and those were some pretty goood years but they never had as solid a lineup as they do now. GO CUBS!!!Mon, 13 Apr 2009 17:52:29 GMT | BOBS47

I agree that killing innocent animals for no reason isn't the answer to anything, period.Mon, 13 Apr 2009 18:00:46 GMT | BOBS47

The only curse for the cubs is that they continually lose to better teams........Mon, 13 Apr 2009 18:17:05 GMT | gof

Cubs fans are NOT stupid enough to mess with karma this way! However, this does have the earmarks of something a White Sox fan would do to screw with Cubs fans.Mon, 13 Apr 2009 18:25:52 GMT | chezhdchick

see, this is what is wrong with all you cubs fans out there. you ALWAYS find an excuse. you can never admit that your team lost to a better team, you always find someone or something to blame it on. the curse IS NOT real. its just an excuse cubs fans go to every year that they dont win it all. see, chicubso6 jumps to a conclusion that its a white sox fan who hung the goat. it probably was a cubs fan trying to end the curse. peace out, and GO WHITE SOX!!!Mon, 13 Apr 2009 18:28:00 GMT | ws05champssoxfan

This same thing happened two years ago before opening day. I am surprised the article doesn't mention the first incident where they found a goat skinned and hung from the same statue. It's just a copycat who did it this time.Mon, 13 Apr 2009 18:57:19 GMT | jspencer1831

There is NO curse. End of story. What it is, is a long drought, nothing more. The Cubs WILL win it all when they come up with timely hitting and solid pitching IN THE PLAYOFFS when it matters. Killing some poor goat and desecrating its remains won't get it done. Don't give Fox Sports the satisfaction of legitimizing a ridiculous theory so they can continue to beat the story line to death as they love to do.I know what I'm talking about....

Advice to the cubs management. Bring in a couple of goats to nibble the grass. Invite the fans. Make a charitable donation to an organization that helps animals. Make it a yearly occasion 'til the Cubs win. It's a perfect opportuity to answer the sickos that think abusing a goat is fun.Mon, 13 Apr 2009 19:14:32 GMT | thebigheat

I like the Cubs and going to a game once a year, for traditions sake. The stadium and the atmosphere is what baseball is all about... of course, the hot girl fans add a whole lot to the experience.I think they should serve goat meat burgers at the game... why not?
The only curse they have is not getting good players to stay around long enough to gel into a productive team. Owners and Management need to retire and get some fresh personel with better scouting talent in there.

Just goes to show how a good story sticks around. We haven't abused Santa Claus for a good 20 years. It was at an Eagles game. He got hit with snowballs too.Anyway...RIP to the two Harry's.
