Welcome to the latest installment of 'Who's Trent Reznor Blasting Now?'

NIN frontman Trent Reznor's been on a tear lately, taking down former '90s icons Rivers Cuomo and Chris Cornell, as well as all-around guitar hero Prince. Now he's taking on Marilyn Manson, telling Mojo that the shock rocker has become 'a dopey clown.' He went on to tell Spinner that 'he is a malicious guy and will step on anybody's face to succeed and cross any line of decency.'

Bravo, Trent. Even if it's true, who cares? What will you do for an encore? Make fun of Eminem?

We get it. You're a smart guy. You resurrected NIN from the '90s dungheap and updated your sound. 'With Teeth' was an album I found myself liking, even though I thought I'd left behind that brand of self-loathing once I checked out of high school. You were one of the first people to get serious about using peer-to-peer networks to keep fans happy, as well as creating premium tailor-made goods to keep a roof over your head. You understand 'new media' without being mesmerized by it. You're someone who admits transforming NIN from a band into a brand. Kudos.




If you're willing to interact with Digg users, even those mediated by Kevin Rose, you're clearly practicing what you preach.

So why bother with all this nonsense that should be ancient history? If you've taken your music into the future, isn't it time to start living in the present?
