Led Zep to Tour, Record Without Plant

Will Led Zeppelin follow in Journey's footsteps? The NME reports today that the band intends to tour and record new music without Robert Plant. Some of the names that have been mentioned as potential Robert replacements include former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell and Aerosmith crooner Steven Tyler.

If you're looking to gain fame as Plant's stand-in, think again. Jimmy Page's manager, Pete Mensch, told the NME that "[they're] not soliciting people! So don't call me about it!"

That's too bad really. Think how much money they could make if they didn't have to split it with a hired gun! Just look at what Journey did with Arnel Pineda!

Do you think Led Zeppelin should tour without Robert Plant? Can they pull it off without his golden pipes? Who should be his replacement? Share your thoughts in the comments!

There is no replacement for Robert Plant in Led Zeppelin.
This is pure "Vegas time" people.

I agree, there is no replacement for Plant. It is too bad the timing is not right for him. A friend of mine was at the London reunion show and commented that Plant was the one who seemed 'a bit tired' and not as enthusiastic as the others.

Sad really, that Plant doesn't have it in him to re-visit, even if it was for just a few shows here and there. I understand his position, but I, as a fan of Led Zeppelin, would love one more chance to experience Led Zeppelin 'Live, and in concert'. Call it a Vegas act if you wish, but it's Classic Rock and Roll by one of the greatest bands EVER to grace the airwaves. I will be there, with or without Plant, if I can get tickets.

Absolutely Not ! It should not be about money. It is the music, old and new. Besides, how much more money do they really need ? By the way, the new Journey material is weak at best !

There is only one Led Zeppelin band!!
I think Robert Plant should reconsider.
I know so many people ( including my teenage kids)
who are anxiously waiting for good news. These iconic
musical figures won't be around forever. Look what happened to the Beatles.

This is going to be disapointing at best. Zep without Plant is like the wind without air. It's the chemistry that made the magic in Zeppelin. Even if Plant did go on tour with them and Jason Bonham was the fill in drummer it still wouldn't be the same. But it would be a whole lot better than a tour without Plant. Very disapointing. :smileysad:

BTW, if I were to choose a singer for this tour it would be Jack Russell. Steven Tyler? Chiris Cornell? Puh-lease.

Go for it Zep. My favorite part in Zep is Jimmy Page's wicked guitar playing. If Plant wants to to contenue re-writing blue grass or whatever that is he is doing so be it. As far as a replacment I think Page should check out Bill (PEACE) Doughty from Technocal Difficulty. Peace is in a small band from Amite Louisiana that is rocking old school style. Don't get me wrong I'd love to see Plant back on his A game but if he dosen't want it give it to somebody who is out there working their butt off trying to get noticed.

Here's my take on it; Page and John Paul should grab Jack Russell, probably the only voice that can hold a candle to Plant's tone. Put Jason on drums and go out there and call it "an evening of the great Led Zeppelin" or something similar. Let the words "new, reunion, reformed, etc." out of it. Just play the songs; let the original zep rest. We can still enjoy the music as close as it will ever get to the original.

"Dead Zeppelin"!! Are you kidding me? As a 41 y/o mom of 2 teenagers who grew up listening to zeppelin, I would be crushed! The thought that they were going to tour one more time had me stashing away $ for an upcoming concert! Nobody can replace Plant...it just wouldn't be the same. I hope they reconsider and just do the tour!

Led Zep needs Plant! He's the original & correct match for lead vocals. His voice is enticing & his performance brings the fans to their true height. Robert Plant - STAY!!!!

I don't know if you people know this or not but Led Zeppelin died in 1980 of alcohol poisoning. Anything else is just a faint shadow that you are seeing of the greatest rock band ever.

They can try as hard as they like but they are just diminishing their legacy.

Don't be ridiculous. Nobody can replace Plant. If they're going to try, whatever happened to the kid who sang for Kingdon Come? Remember them? Odd little punk, and full of himself, but strikingly similar vocals. Don't remember his name, but we met briefly backstage at Monsters of Rock.

What about the lead singer from Great White? He has covered their songs before and sounded pretty darn good

There is no replacement for Robert Plant, Steve Perry, David Lee Roth, etc......You can never reproduce that original sound and feel of a great band. There is something magical that grips you in your very soul when you listen to an original band. I say don't mess with the magic.....it never is the same. The best anyone can do is form another band with a different sound. There is something very cheap and distasteful about the whole idea of replacing Plant. Retire and enjoy your golden years guys!

There is no Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant...period!! It would be a huge mistake on Page and Jones part...classless I would say. Start a new band if you want to do that! -A Die Hard Zepp fan

I grew up listening to Zep and and I am huge fan. I'ld love to see them together but if Plant wants to get out gracefully he should, it's a big world. If anything, I feel bad for John Paul Jones. Page and Plant already did "their" thing, including Zep songs, without even asking him to join them the last time around.

As a long time Zeppelin fan, I respected band's decision to quit when John Bonham died. With his son on drums - this could have been magical, but Zeppelin without Plant could never be Zeppelin at all, just a mere imitation. Each member of the band brought a unique magic that made the whole what it was. I saw them live two times and couldn't imagine seeing them without Plant front and center. Guys - stick to your decision - no Plant - no Zeppelin! I would not go to see them, I'd rather keep my memories of the greatest ever!

Let's be real people. LZ were an amazing live band. I saw them 3 times back in the day. First time was on the "Physical Graffiti" tour, then twice in 3 days on the last tour they played the states which preceded the album "Presence". Plant's voice was already starting to go towards the end anyway. Just listen to the vocals on every song from "In through the out door" which was released not long before Bonzo died so they never toured on it. The album had moments & he could still sing, but it was clear that he was losing his vocal range & power. Just like Geddy Lee with Rush. Sure, from a nostalgic standpoint it would be cool to see a Zep show. But, Without Plant (and Bonzo, for that matter....no offense Jason) it's not Led Zeppelin. Even he can't come close to singing thier best stuff like he used to. He hasn't been able to do so in 30 years ! And, as far as having ANYONE else stand in....come on. Sure, they could find someone that could maybe come close. But, what would be the point. It would just make them look foolish & diminish the legacy. Some bands can pull it off. Lynyrd Skynyrd's nowhere near the same w/o RVZ up front (saw the original 5 times) but at least with his kid brother Johnny, who looks & sounds similar, thier not trying to "immitate" Ronnie on the new material & live they sound pretty **bleep** good. He does it his own way which because of bloodlines I guess it works. THIER legacy isn't being tarnished. Just being carried on. That's not the case with Zeppelin, though. If it can't be done right, which it can't, it shouldn't be done.
RIP Bonzo
RIP Led Zeppelin
