Keira Knightley Is Fairest Lady of Them All

Popcrunch is confirming that Keira Knightley has bested Scarlett Johansson for the part of Eliza Doolittle in the remake of the musical classic, “My Fair Lady.” The character was portrayed by Audrey Hepburn in the 1964 original.The cockney rags-to-riches remake will be directed by Joe Wright, who collaborated with brunette beauty Knightley on “Atonement” and “Pride and Prejudice.”
No word yet on who will play Henry Higgins. Fingers crossed for Hugh Jackman.

Yes, she is a good choice. Casting for Henry Higgins should be an older gentleman with a sense of humor and a little unrefined around the edges. This will compliment the somewhat different composure that Keira will bring to her character. Any suggestions?Hugh Jackman is just too darn good looking.

Keira Knightley is a wonderful choice, she is beautiful, graceful, witty and lets face it the girl CAN ACT, which is more than I can say for Ms. Johansson. I can barely watch any of Ms. Johansson's movies...she is beautiful, but a solid actress...she is not.As far as the male role, I'd like to see Brad Pitt, Matt Damon or Hugh Jackman! All three men are gorgeous, have comic ability and are splendid actors!

Kiera, I love ya, but no one, but no one will out do or even come close to Audry Hepburn. It is so very unfair for magazines to hold up that knid of mirror to anyone. Some movies should simply not be remade. My Fair Lady is one of them, if for no other reason than the preservation of Rex Harrison's and Stanley Holloway's performances, as they were in the original Broadway cast, and Cecil Beaton's glorious costumes and sets.However, if they are determined to remake the movie, Keira Knightley is an excellent choice as she has proven herself capable of the vulnerability, courage and humor necessary for the role. Can she sing? I hope so. After the debacle surrounding the dubbing of Audrey Hepburn's singing that cost her an Oscar nomination, Ms. Knightley had better be singing her own tunes.
As for Higgins, Hugh Jackman is well known to be an excellent singer with legitimate Broadway chops, although the role has always been more of a speaking in tune than singing role. He a shade young, but no younger than Leslie Howard was when he played Higgins in the Gabriel Pascal adaptation in 1936 of Pygmalion (the play MFL is based on, for those who don't know). Also, this kind of production costs beaucoup bucks, and Jackman has a name that can bring financing. Anthony Hopkins would also be superb, though he may be just enough too old for any latent romantic chemistry with the waiflike Knightley.
Another choice to consider would be Gerard Butler. From his work in Phantom of the Opera he is a good singer, he is of an age with Jackman (more or less) and is also attractive physically and is gaining name recognition in the last few years from a string of films.
But my first choice would be Jackman, hands down.

Jude Law, hands down would be a great Henry Higgins. Why? He is a wonderful actor who without upstaging Knightly (unlike matinee idol Jackman) could play the role of an insufferable snobbish British professor with perfection. Jude could look down his nose with conviction, yet want to transform the impossible Eliza Dolittle with a hidden heart of gold. She is not ready yet. Good looks is one thing but acting is another. Hepburn had the full package while Keira is just super hot. She pays too much attention to herself though, which is discomforting to watch. I can't stand a fabulous super duper hotty losing way to much weight. Her face contorts and her chest is that of an eight year old boy and you can see through her thinly skin to her skeleton. Its okay since we just had Halloween.Oh man. One cannot deny she is a hotty when she wants to be. To play that part and fill the bill, she will need to eat more then her brain will function properly, then she acts better and looks hot and all of sudden she can play that part and be cast. Woo Hoo
