Julianne Hough Kicks off Her Sunday Shoes

According to Variety, Julianne Hough has been cast in the remake of the Kevin Bacon rebel-without- a-dance-floor classic, “Footloose.” Rumors of the casting have been buzzing for months, but the "Dancing with the Stars" pro and country singer has finally made it official. She will be joining “Gossip” boy Chace Crawford and producers Dylan Sellers, Kenny Ortega (of "High School Musical" infamy), Craig Zadan (a producer of the original movie) and Neil Meron. Why they need four producers is beyond me, but there you are.
It’s tough to imagine how the polished “Dancing” star will hold up against the iconic Ariel Moore played by “Fame” alumni Lori Singer. There was just something about Lori’s too-skinny, roughed-up cowgirl look that worked perfectly in the movie. Hough, with her perfect tan and blond locks, looks more Country-fried Barbie than preacher’s-daughter-gone-bad. Personally, I can’t wait to see who gets cast in Sarah Jessica Parker’s role.
What do you think? Should they remake "Footloose"? Who would you cast in it? Click here to comment!

While I like Julianne, I really think that Annalyn McCord would have been a perfect fit. She has that preachers daughter gone bad look that would have fit perfectly. I hope that Julianne can pull it off. I don't know why they need to keep remaking old films either. Some movies, like this one, were good in the orignal format..Mon, 22 Jun 2009 17:02:14 GMT | jagglynn

How can you improve on perfection. Sometimes it is impossible to recapture the moment. This movie doesn't need a remake.Mon, 22 Jun 2009 17:52:34 GMT | nursepractfor11

My daughter was at the 'tween' age when Footloose came out. Can't tell you how many times we saw that movie! I think I enjoyed it as much as she. My feeling is 'don't mess with perfection'. I am sure there are many of us that would like to keep that stored in our memories, only to pull out the original to watch occasionally. Times are so different, not sure it would have the impact now without making it something it wasn't at that time!Mon, 22 Jun 2009 17:55:47 GMT | granny2000

It doesn't matter if Hough dressed up like a too-skinny, roughed up cowgirl or not... this movie will never live up to the original. There is something to say about the old school ways... I really don't care for the pre-madonnas of this generationMon, 22 Jun 2009 18:40:48 GMT | 80sgirl89

I was not totally blown away by the original 'Foot Loose' and don't really care if they remake it or not. If they do, good move to cast Julianne Hough as the female lead. There are people (like me) who will see it just because she is in it that would not otherwise bother.Mon, 22 Jun 2009 19:08:58 GMT | Joe19904

"Footloose" was a maddeningly illogical movie, with only a few musical highlights and despite having two good pieces of music to utilize. Kevin Bacon had to be ghost-danced in a key scene. Lori didn't dance much at all. Certainly not memorably. The climactic scene had to be obscured by sparkles to hide the low quality performances. (Kevin Bacon is a much better actor than dancer, not to mention that he is a high quality citizen. What ever happened to Lori Springer?) "Dirty Dancing" surpassed "Footloose" by miles. Julianne has a shot here to establish herself as an engaging performer. I look forward to the remake. I can always listen to the theme music. Hope they run the script through an update.Mon, 22 Jun 2009 19:29:26 GMT | cjger31

How is that going to work? Her real life BROTHER is playing the Kevin Bacon character. Is she going to romantically kiss (or now-a-days worse) her own brother in this movie.Mon, 22 Jun 2009 19:36:04 GMT | IshmaShaw

I believe Chace Crawford is playing the Kevin Bacon Role NOT Julianne's brother. That would be too unnerving and I'm a freak. Anyway the only reason the first one was good was because of the hit song and Kevin Bacon. It wasn't even that good of a Musical/Movie. But, the producers will update, add a few more songs and the cast two young people the tweens will pay gazillions to see on screen. They are not making this for the adults who saw the original. I say why make a bad musical over again. Why not The Sound of Music? OYMon, 22 Jun 2009 20:07:30 GMT | ptowner

I think Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgewick as the pastor and his wife would be a exceptionally good choice, how about Derek Hough in Kevin Bacon's part instead of his sister at all. Pick another young star instead of Julianne.Mon, 22 Jun 2009 20:13:52 GMT | ariesmonsta

I like to wait and see what I am talking about before throwing around negative energy. I am always happy to see something new, especially a musical. Julianne is beautiful and talented. I think she just might surprise everyone. I hoped she would get the role, so I am happy for her and looking forward to seeing the movie.Mon, 22 Jun 2009 20:21:13 GMT | Nette

OK, this time I will be the shallow one: Julianne could just stand there looking beautiful, and I would pay to see the attempted remake of the movie. It will surely be on the DVD scene very quickly any how.Mon, 22 Jun 2009 21:22:25 GMT | Safetyguy

They could cast Susan Boyle opposite Simon Cowell for all I care. It was a stupid, sappy, vapid piece of fluff the first time and I wouldn't see the remake if my life depended on it. Have a nice day everyone!!!Mon, 22 Jun 2009 22:04:34 GMT | badjohnnie

Poor, poor badjohnnie..... he may be right about the original being fluff, BUT, it was a classic. Don't remake this movie......I am having nightmares of them remaking another 80's dance movie "Flashdance"....ugh.badjohnnie writes: body They could cast Susan Boyle opposite Simon Cowell for all I care.
