McG Blasts Back at Bay

"Transformers" director Michael Bay couldn't resist getting in a bit of a dig at his upcoming summer competition. In a recent blog post, Bay makes a thinly veiled reference to "Terminator Salvation's" giant, robotic Harvesters unveiled in the film's most recent trailer, as compared to his giant robots.
Bay posted: "Okay it's time to turn up the heat on "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." We've waited low in the weeds letting all the summer movies get their stuff out" wrote Bay. " We've seen the great year end movies, and watched the upcoming clips of the upcoming summer fare. We've seen certain movies coming out even trying to duplicate "Transformer" size robots in their ads. Please, come on."
How does the newest "Terminator" director feel about Bay's none-too-subtle jab?
We caught up with McG today at a special screening of early “Terminator Salvation” footage and asked him what he thought of the comparison. He had a few choice words for Bay.
“It bothers me to tell you the truth. Ultimately, our large robots have nothing to do with the "Transformers" robots," MCG replied. "I say with respect, giant robots have been the theme of film for a real long time . So we want to do everything we can to create separation," he continued. "Our film's about T-800s and the Marcus character and the Connor character, and this, that, and the other. So, to have people have a problem with that wouldn't be working for us so we want to make sure there's separation."
Although McG kept his composure, it was clear that the subject got him riled up. Could this be the beginning of a McG vs. Bay smackdown? Does this mean a "T vs. T" movie in 2010? If T-800s and Transformers went to war who would win? Is this just a case of a few Hollywood boys fighting over their extremely explosive toys? Stay tuned for more on the "Terminator Salvation" preview and all the skull crushing machines that came with it.

I am tired of the Terminator movies. If Arni isn't in it, it's not worth it. But I can't wait for the new Transformer movies. I think it's gonna be a fun Summer movie.Tue, 13 Jan 2009 18:32:40 GMT | flaggirl

The 2 biggest Hacks in Hollywood have a nerve to say anything I'm not paying to see either I have no doubt both will be a piece a crap. Transformer was the worst POS I have ever seen next to the Charlie's Angels movies McG made.Tue, 13 Jan 2009 19:51:02 GMT | Phategod1

Hey McBay is just trying to drum up some media. He needs to look around and see all the big robots in dozens of other movies. His ego is too big, half the time his movies ripe off others!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1Tue, 13 Jan 2009 19:52:05 GMT | tex74couver

Transformers is eye candy, some would say. Terminator is a storyline which culminates into what we have only seen in flashbacks from the other Terminator movies. This is the battle on Earth. So it needed to be made to finish out the series.I am a big Terminator fan and Arnie fan. I believe he may cameo in this one.

Wah... his robot looks like my robot... I had my robot first... wah...2 completely different movies, with completely different stories. However, I think I would rather see both of them at home, on Blu Ray, than spend $20 at a theater... Theaters suck these days anyways, nothing beats a good home system.

Bay should watch it. The first Tranformers was a stupid movie. The robots were ok to watch, but I couldn't tell who was good and bad during fight scenes. Terminator movies have been going downhill ever since the first (which is probably the best 'robot' movie of all times). I think the Terminator franchise is ready to rise again now that it doesn't have to count on the craptastic Arnold. Bay you suck!Tue, 13 Jan 2009 22:06:02 GMT | colin1975

In my personal opinion (and I'm just an avid movie goer) is that I would rather see Terminator: Salvation than any Transformer movie. I think Christian Bale and Bryce Howard are much more better actors than Megan Fox and Shia Labouf, (whose characters never seem to change). I have found that when another person such as Bay has to degrade another upcoming movie then it shows insecurity of his own movie. Not surprising considering it's really bad when a CGI character can out act a life person.Tue, 13 Jan 2009 22:15:31 GMT | SoCalGal

Bay realy needs to take a look at the first Terminator movie. In the "flash forwards" of Kyle Reese, what do you see, massive robotic type tanks crushing skulls under its tracks and rotating cannons killing anything moving. It looks like the cartoon Transformers got the concept of large robots fighting a war (whether it be against man or another machine). Jim Cameron and Gale Ann Herd should be the ones taking offense to this latest " he stole my idea" blog entry. It is time to evolve and bring the future war segmant into the Terminator mix. We have all been waiting for it for years and T3: Rise of the Machines gave us a taste that needs to be satisfied, with or without Arnie.

OMG Giant Robots in TWO upcoming Sci-Fi movies?!?! No way!!! lol Neither idea is original at this point and neither director invented the idea of giant robots in sci-fi films. MB is being a drama queen and just wants publicity imo which turns me off of wanting to see his movie(s).Tue, 13 Jan 2009 22:53:06 GMT | CaliBay

I happen to be a fan of both. I will probably go see the Transformer movie over the Terminator movie. Love the comedy mixed in with the Action that Transformer has.The Terminator movies have gotten more serious.
Love them both. They both will make money and not get any big awards anyways!
