George Michael Calls Out Dr. Phil

It got a little hot in the Los Angeles Forum Wednesday night as George Michael's six-week 'Live Global Tour' of North America made its second stop...and it wasn't because of the lack of AC.Despite a 20-year absence from playing the region, a relaxed and stridently voiced Michael quickly won over the enthused crowd...except for one.
About midway into the first hour of his performance, Michael took the opportunity between songs to chuckle to himself and murmur teasingly, "...No this is too mean." He then smiled wickedly and proceeded to announce that television therapist Dr. Phil McGraw was present in the audience. After a smattering of applause some of the crowd started to boo. Only spurring the singer on, he mentioned that Dr. Phil's wife, Robin, seemed to be having a good time but, "...in the sea of smiling faces, he's looked miserable for the last hour."
The house camera then managed to get an shot of Dr. Phil, indeed looking on with a scowl and more than a little bit non-plussed. The crowd proceeded to boo even louder.
With an impish look, Michael looked right at the cranky Texan and offered, "You should see someone about that!" With thunderous applause, Michael went on pleasing the rest of the ecstatic crowd for the rest of his 140-minute concert.
***What do you think? Was Michael's diss a proper dressing down of the good doctor or was that a bit rude? Click here to comment!

I think it was altogether appropriate. Phil McGraw IS NOT licensed or trained and should not be allowed to screw around with people lives . His opinion should hold no more weight than mine or yours. He brings public disdain on to himself.Thu, 26 Jun 2008 17:40:28 GMT | H-bomb

Dr. Phil IS licensed and trained as well has having decades of experience. It would be nice to know why he was scowling before asking anyone's opinion regarding the situation.Thu, 26 Jun 2008 17:42:23 GMT | TrelawneyDawn

If George hadn't pointed out that Dr. Phil was scowling, no one would have noticed. I think it was very inappropriate of George Michaels. It is never appropriate to try to berate someone to a group of people. It just makes you that much smaller. Shame on you George.Thu, 26 Jun 2008 17:47:42 GMT | Marilena

VERY VERY RUDE. Did it not occur to George M. that maybe his show wasn't very exciting and that justified the scowl?Thu, 26 Jun 2008 17:51:26 GMT | pjal

I dont think it was rude at all considering who he did it to. Dr. Phil wouldnt think twice about doing that to someone. Besides a taste of ones own medicine cant be a bad thing can it? Serves him right!Thu, 26 Jun 2008 17:53:41 GMT | salijo67

For one that plays around in public bathrooms, I think I would keep a low profile. Who do you think has the real problem here. I don't think anyone in the crowd would be too happy if he was playing around with one of their kids.Thu, 26 Jun 2008 18:09:05 GMT | Brother000

I,Mary Ann would like Phil McGraw banned from the air. If you people would quite watching this freak, like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharton they would cease to be an issue. The only reason they do what they do is for there own greedy financial betterment. Oh, I forgot I left out Oprah Winfrey. Women are the main target audience. Get your fat A** off the couch and do something constructiveThu, 26 Jun 2008 18:10:19 GMT | maryannandsteve

That's like inviting someone to a party at your house and then insulting them in front of everyone.Thu, 26 Jun 2008 18:14:49 GMT | sweettom

I am actually amused by this. Dr. Phil seems to be in everyone celebrity's business even before they ask him and it was fun to see him called out a bit. . . Nothing like a crowd full of boos to put yourself into perspective.Thu, 26 Jun 2008 18:23:07 GMT | velmagrrrl

Dr(?) Phil is a joke...he is about as much of a Doctor as Dr Dre and Dr J. Why he is on television is something I will never understand. I think was George Micheal did was great...I'm sure he was dragged there by his wife and had no interest in being there...and he called him on it. Phil seems like he about as much fun as a diaper rash.Thu, 26 Jun 2008 18:23:13 GMT | Mbrown4410

Perhaps Dr. Phil now knows how some of the people felt whom he has publicly dist in the past (i.e. Britney Spears, Tom Cruz). What goes around comes around....Thu, 26 Jun 2008 18:34:50 GMT | luckydav

Just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their opinion, it was a bit rude of George Michael to do this. No one is supposed to judge anyone and while I am a not a big fan of Dr. Phil, it is rude to point out one's behavior especially since no one is perfect!Thu, 26 Jun 2008 18:45:47 GMT | Tsalagi

Dr. Phil was not "invited" to the concert personally. He bought a ticket. Better that he didn't attend a Kathy Griffin comedy show. Maybe George should headline with Kathy. They're both A list in my book!Thu, 26 Jun 2008 18:46:06 GMT | nubius

I think what George Michael did was very very rude. He was there to sing his songs to entertain the audiance. I think with what he said he most likely lost a few fans.Thu, 26 Jun 2008 19:00:48 GMT | tres2732
