We told you yesterday that Hopper Jack Penn, the 16-year-old son of Sean and Robin Wright Penn was arrested at school last week. We’ve now learned from RadarOnline.com that he will not face charges.A source close to the investigation has told Radar that the District Attorney's office has closed its investigation after Hopper proved that the drugs found on him were in fact prescription medication in his name.
Authorities will not say what type of medication was involved.
What Do You Think? Did Hopper get off easy because his dad is famous? Click here to comment |

If he in fact had prescription medications in his name then he was within his rights to have them. The only issue here is the fact that students must register their medications with the school nurse (at least that was the rule when my sister was a teacher in LA). The rule then (and I am not sure if the rule still prevails) was that any medications that a student takes during school hours must be given to the school nurse and he/she in turn administers the medication to the student. The student was never allowed to keep the medication on his person and take it ad lib, and perhaps that is the violatiion that this student is guilty of if in fact that rule still applies. It is always prudent for a parent to ensure that their children do not carry medicaion on their person and self-administer themselves whether the law stll prevails or not. The boy is a minor and therefore the parents were remiss in not turning the medications over to the school nurse who in turn would administer the medication per the orders of the physician who prescribed the medication. I would never allow my children to self-administer their own medications, but rather for safety reasons give them to the school nurse to dispense at the proper time. No minor child should self administer his own medcations and the school nurse should have been the one to administer them to the minor child.Thu, 05 Nov 2009 02:43:19 GMT | monterey

Did he get off easy because his dad is famous? Don't know, but over the last several years I have seen news stories about students being EXPELLED for possession of unregistered TYLENOL on campus. Maybe the DA dismissed the charges against Hopper (stupid name), but we'll just have to wait and see if Daddy's big bucks are going to trump the school's administrative policies (if any).Message Edited by dehautenbas on 11-05-2009 04:44 PM

Monterey, writes that it is wrong to have a 16 year old take perscription medication without the supervision of an adult (nurse) at school, cause they are a minor . Yet at 16 you are allowed to drive a car, ride a motorcycle or moped without that same supervision which is much more dangerous not only to themselves but to others as well. At 18 you are still considered a minor but you can be in the military a be sent to a far away land and kill people and or be killed or injured yourself fighting for your country. Yet you can't have a beer. At 18 you could win the lottery worth millions and millions of dollars yet you can't go into a casino and gamble. By the way most schools don't have a nurse on duty every minute that there are kids on school grounds. Things that make you go hhmmm.Sat, 07 Nov 2009 22:36:15 GMT | Mckyms

Yeah........his father's brother is RUSH LIMBAUGH.....You people wh0 hate so much forget the jerks like him and the politicians who are getting it on in lavatories, or the confessions of Congressional aides who admit most of the younger ones (under 100) are keeping them and are just there for the b jobs. Never hear about Monica L.s any more........everyone in Republican Congress or Senate is gay and the Democratic ones are out. What a sick bunch of people vote and judge.
