Actress Kelly McGillis, best known for her role as the astrophysicist who revved Tom Cruise's jets in the classic '80s film "Top Gun," announced to Web site Shewired.com that she is "done with men."
The now-single McGillis, 51, who has been twice married and twice divorced, revealed in a video interview on the site that she is looking to date a woman and that she is "done with the man thing. I did that."
The actress said she had long struggled with her sexuality and coming out as a lesbian has been "an ongoing process from the time I was probably 12." At times she was convinced that God was punishing her for being gay.
McGillis, who also starred in "Witness," "The Accused" and "The L Word," added "life is a freaking journey, and it's about growing and changing, and coming to terms with who and what you are, and loving who and what you are."

What is sad my fellow AMERICANS that are posting negative comments on Kelly McGillis coming out shows just how narrow your mind is. Which that mindset is what have kept gays in the closet. Well, NO MORE. The time is drawing near, people that are gay (BORN GAY) will be able to be who they are and NOT to be affraid if it because parents and other biggots in the past have...Well, never mind....the people that get what I'm saying, get it...the rest (Biggots) your day will come to be judged by the Lord. I just hope i'm not in line while you're trying to talk your way in ;) But I will pray for you, you see...I believe and practice what Jesus taught us to believe in our hearts.Fri, 01 May 2009 19:41:41 GMT | mbell389407

You know if you were a "mom who really rocked" you would not be so ignorant about the fact that all lesbians are as you say are "manly". Why don't you become a little more educated on the issue before you have to open mouth and insert foot!Fri, 01 May 2009 20:15:46 GMT | coolchick

I think it is great that she is finally comfortable enough with herself to admit how she really feels. More power to her. And for those of you who have issues and are throwing out bible verses left and right - get over yourselves - it is called homophobia for a reason!Fri, 01 May 2009 20:20:35 GMT | cravincofe

Congratulations Kelly. It is great when individuals can break free of fear and repression to express themselves and live their lives in truth. Many will point to a book or document that was manufactured and corrupted by unsavory people over many centuries and think it is the truth or the word. The only spirit in each of us is love for humankind ... not hate.Fri, 01 May 2009 20:40:12 GMT | eieiouuandu

I find it tiring hearing of anyone's sexuality. And guess what else? I don't have to "tolerate" anyone, especially if I believe it is wrong. Like you don't have opinions yourselves? Please. If she wants to act, then act, but I care about her "being done with men" about as much as anyone would care if I'm heterosexual. Why is it that homosexuals feel a need to talk about their sexuality constantly? My God, do you have nothing else in your lives? And by the way, perhaps you are the ignorant ones. Don't quote the Bible unless you've actually read the Bible. According to the Bible, it is a sin. Get your facts straight and quit attacking people for their opinions.Fri, 01 May 2009 20:45:59 GMT | reaganrules

Peanut_gallery, I feel the same way. I am a man AND I am a lesbian. (heh hehe) Love those females!Seriously, Kelli is living her life the way she wants to and that's what freedom is all about. Wish everyone wouldn't make it seem such a big deal though. To each his (or her) own. Being happy with whoever you are with is what counts.

Just don't pick and choose to leave out the rest of the verse as well, mi2sense. I understand it well. The devil as you say actually misquoted scripture and Jesus called him on it. Just saying we aren't called to account for the sin of others. If you can't agree with that, well, I'm sorry.Fri, 01 May 2009 21:13:31 GMT | ronbonsings

Kelly, trying to be something your not isn't the answer; relationships are hard, especially when celebrity and everything that goes with it are involved. You should try a "regular guy" like me for a change, a hopeful romantic gentleman who knows how to cherish a lady and make her dreams come true. Remember, character isn't about how many times you get knocked down - it's about how many times you get back up...Fri, 01 May 2009 21:15:11 GMT | Kooldaddy
