Comcast recently added KidZui (The Kid’s Internet) to its lineup…and we’re here —LIVE on the scene — to tell you all about it.

——————————————————

“Hey Emmett. What do you like about KidZui”?

My son is sitting at the living room table, logged onto KidZui and playing a car game.

“Um, I like it cause there’s different games I never played before…and it’s fun and stuff. Come on Mom. You already know why. Let me play the game.”

In a nutshell, KidZui is a FREE search engine and homepage for kids (ages 3-12) — and it’s a staple at my house. It’s a place kids can search the Web, play games, watch videos, listen to music and even join a sort of Facebook-like kid’s group — safely.

Imagine a colorful kid-version of Yahoo, and you’re getting close to KidZui. It’s the Willie Wonka of the Internet… an online playground with no strangers…and it’s the only way my son is allowed to go online without my full attention.

In light of that I put together my own list of…

WHY KIDZUI ROCKS
(A TOP 5 list by a real-life mom)

1. KidZui is a place that’s SAFE
Every site the KidZui search engine picks up (and there are tons) was hand-selected by a team of 200 teachers and parents.

2. The homepage is FUN.
Your kid can have an email account, make online friends, see funny animal pictures, watch videos, listen to music…they can even get homework help.

3. KidZui has the BEST GAMES.
It’s the best of the Web’s free games, all in one place. In our house, this is major.

4. It’s PARENT FRIENDLY (and free).
KidZui meets the demands of an overly protective helicopter parent like me. There are email updates, parental controls, and automatic reports about what my kid is doing online. Plus, it’s FREE.

5. It’s EASY for kids.
It’s picture based, so they can SEE what they want to do. If my son types in “Lego”, the search results feature photos of the web pages rather than text listings. It feels like KidZui was created by a kid (with a parent’s guidance).

So that’s the word folks. KidZui ROCKS — and you heard it here first.

Just a couple of months ago, a group of comcast.net/games community members started up a group chat while playing Pyramid Solitaire. Typically online chatting is considered a difficult platform to express one’s self, but this group of game lovers seemed to have no problem. The chat became recurring and began to cover more than just Solitaire strategies, top scores and avatar talk — sure enough friendships developed.

The folks at Comcast.net only became aware of these events a few days ago, after community member GammaDeb sent an email to Philly Jilly (Comcast.net’s avatar cutie) telling us the group’s story. GammaDeb explained how, three months later, the group has bonded in the chat room learning about one another, with some even feeling comfortable enough to step out from behind their computer screens and avatar identities and meet in person! Not only have they planned to meet but they have the perfect occasion in mind: An engagement party for ‘The Supers’ Supermomma9325 and Superchrono who met in our very own “Pyramid Solitaire Room!” Sounds like the group is ready to party and celebrate the engagement and the lasting friendships they have made with one another.

Congrats, Pyramid Solitaire lovers and thanks for sharing your story.

If you’re the owner of an iPhone or iPod Touch, then checking your Comcast SmartZone email and voicemail just got easier to access…from anywhere.

Last week we introduced the free Comcast Mobile app for you to download and install on either of those devices. The app allows you to not only check email and voicemail – already useful enough functionality – but also view TV and OnDemand listings and even watch the trailers for OnDemand movies.

Comcast Voices blogger Scott McNulty got to this news already and includes the following round-up of reviews of the Comcast Mobile app:

TUAW calls Comcast Mobile a “surprisingly useful and fun app for the iPhone and iPod touch,” EngadetHD says that “the Digital Voice integration is the killer feature in this version,” CNet gave it four stars, and Gizmodo thinks “this is how you make a services app.”

You can also click over to the Comcast Voices blog to view a video tour of the app as well.
